Suzuki
Strings of the Pacific offers the following to all students.
Individual
Lessons
Weekly private lessons are 1/2 hour, 45 minutes or an hour in length depending
on the age and level of each student. Private lessons are offered Monday
through Friday. A parent must be present during private lessons to take
notes and learn how to become a good home teacher.
Group
Lessons
Group lessons are offered weekly on Friday afternoons. Students of approximately
the same level in playing ability are placed together to study technique,
ear training, ensemble playing, theory and note reading. All students
are expected to attend group lessons.
Chamber Music
More advanced students are given the opportunity to study and perform
quartets or pieces written for more than 2 violins and possibly including
viola and cello.
Recitals
Suzuki Strings of the Pacific holds two recitals a year (fall and spring)
which are open to the public. All students, even the youngest beginner,
perform solos with piano accompaniment. Chamber music students usually
perform during the spring concert.
Group Performances
The students perform carols at a retirement center and an outdoor ice-rink
each holiday season. Recently many students have come together to learn
fiddle tunes and to perform as a group during the Berkeley Old Time Music
Convention.
Workshops
On one Saturday in winter a guest Suzuki teacher comes to share his or
her expertise with the students. Students receive three lessons that day;
two group classes which emphasize ensemble playing and techniques and
one master class in which each student gets to play individually for the
teacher. Class size is limited to 16 students.
